Amazones

Feature film, 2004, 93 min.

According to a Greek myth, Amazons were a race of female warriors that only needed men to preserve the ethnic group. In Lammers's action comedy, based on a true story that happened in France, the Amazons are four welfare mothers from Breda-Noord. The single mothers Lot and Reneetje, Sam, who is married to an unemployed Egyptian, and the once affluent widow and woman returner Kers, land in a well-oiled hold-up of a gas station. Impressed, the ladies decide to try it too, choosing a bank as their target. The raid passes off surprisingly smooth and the loot is immediately spent on back rent, clothes, coke and a new washing machine. So, it's time for a new operation. But this is hampered when Lot falls in love with the detective who leads the bank raid case, Kers is bothered by a pushy boss and Sam's man gets suspicious. The action scenes in the film were directed by Lammers's husband, director Dick Maas.
