De Heineken ontvoering - The Heineken Kidnapping

Feature film, 2011, 118 min.

In 1983, beer brewer Alfred Heineken, together with his chauffeur, is kidnapped on the doorstep of his office. For twenty-one nerve-racking days, the beer baron remains fettered in a chilly, cramped cell. His kidnappers, four criminal friends from Amsterdam, initially have great problems cashing the ransom. Once liberated, Heineken plays an active role in the global hunt for his tormentors and millions of guilders disappear. Director Maarten Treurniet stuck close to the historical facts surrounding Holland's most notorious kidnapping episode, but took some creative liberties. Although he does not appear as a character, Heineken kidnapper Willem Holleeder recognised his younger self so clearly in Reinout Scholten van Aschat's rendering that he took legal action, and lost.
