Qui vive

Feature film, 2001, 91 min.

Qui vive is a sequel to the wedding film that Alexander, in the film Leedvermaak, made as a wedding gift for his ex-wife Lea in 1970. Twelve years later, he resumes the story. In Qui vive, he shows what has happened to the characters over the years. In Leedvermaak, the personal sorrow of the wedding couple and their guests predominated. Lea's parents, both survivors of Auschwitz, were struggling with the past. The father of Lea's new husband Nico lost his wife and eldest son in a camp and attended the wedding ceremony with his second wife. In Qui vive, the people are not really faring any better and the situations are not less complicated. Nico's first wife, for example, is pregnant, but refuses to reveal the identity of the father, and Nico is now going through a crisis. Qui vive is based on Judith Herzberg's play Rijgdraad.
