Gangsterboys

Feature film, 2010, 86 min.

The violent action movie Gangsterboys is the first Dutch film with a predominantly Turkish cast. Director Paul Ruven turned Orhan Sahin's original script into a comedy, playing with stereotypes and prejudices between different communities. The two clumsy protagonists are budding rap artists who willy-nilly get into heavy crime. Outbluffing each other with one-liners and piling one blunder on top of the other, they get themselves into a terrible mess.
Turkish Mahmut and half-Turkish Apo have to settle a small affair that will earn them the entry fee for a rap battle. When they get caught, they have the choice to infiltrate the Turkish mafia or go to jail. To become a member of the organisation, they have to do humiliating chores, like cleaning toilets, until they get bigger jobs, which are just as dirty. But then it turns out that many people in gangland have double agendas.
