De man met 100 kinderen

Documentary, 2012, 69 min.

Having dozens of children used to be reserved to kings and tribal chiefs, as a token of their prestige. Today, even a tourist guide from a nice suburb of Maastricht like Ed Houben can father hundreds of descendants, courtesy of women?s liberation and the Internet. The world of this sperm donor may seem artificial at times; a socially engineered society that clinically talks about ?prospective parents?, ?ovulation days?, ?sperm test results?, ?attempts, and ?successful pregnancies?. Still, this abstract world has meanwhile brought forth hundreds of real children. The portrait of this super sperm donor shows how social conventions put Ed and the prospective mothers to the test day after day. In the end, Ed?s microcosm says a lot about our times, morals and society.
