De magie van Carré

Short documentary, 2004, 52 min.

To many artists, performing in the Royal Carré Theatre is a well-nigh religious experience. In 2004, the centennial building had to close its doors for a drastic renovation. Prior to the shutdown, filmmaker Ineke Hilhorst followed various performers in Carré: Freek de Jonge ('This is a place to love'), Hans Teeuwen, De Vliegende Panters ('It looks just like a soccer stadium'), Hans Liberg, Rob de Nijs ('In my mind, I write it with capital letters'), Mercedes Sosa and 'ringmaster' Ted de Braak. Hilhorst shows the tension before the show, both in the dressing room and in the auditorium, excerpts from the performances and the release afterwards. In this way, and by incorporating comments by some of the above-mentioned entertainers, she tries to determine the source of the magic of Carré.
