Burma Storybook

Documentary, 2017, 81 min.

Despite years of oppression, poetry is still hugely popular in Burma (today’s Myanmar). In surviving the harsh years under the military dictatorship, the population found support in poetry. With the recent arrival of the internet, the country knows even more online poets than bloggers. The stories and poems in this documentary revolve around the most prominent, still living dissident poet, Maung Aung Pwint, who was detained for many years for his poetry and activism. A poetic journey across a miraculous country where time seems to have stood still.
