Fighting for Peace

Documentary, 2016, 72 min.

In the most dangerous slum of Rio, where blood stains the street, the young boxing talents Sugar (15) and Douglas (14) have to contend with misery. Boxing is not a hobby, but dire necessity. With the money he cashes, Sugar hopes to move his family to a place where bullets aren’t flying around. Douglas wants to save his addicted sister Suelen. British Luke Dowdney’s boxing gym offers children the chance of a way out, but some of his pupils are dead only two years later. Not everybody can resist the temptation of crack and gangs.
