Citizens of Nature

Documentary, 2018, 90 min.

IN PRODUCTION. Citizens of Nature (working title) feature length film, expected release first half of 2018.
The inlands of Suriname are inhabited by Maroons, or Fiiman (free people) as they prefer to call themselves. These people are the descendants of Africans who, in the 17th and 18th century, were shipped over the Atlantic Ocean to work on the plantations as slaves. Many Africans were able to free themselves. They founded new tribal communities in the rainforest. Building on their African knowledge, these tribes developed a special relationship to their environment.
