EPTAS - Alledaags

Short documentary, 2007, 10 min.

Alledaags is a contemplative short documentary about the daily lives of three people. A blonde woman works in the food industry and constantly fills boxes with instant meals. A prison warder spends the languid day behind his computer. The daily job of a prisoner is to clean the prison and take care of the laundry.
From the moment the alarm clock rings until they go to bed, the characters are followed. Alledaags shows the daily regularity, the grind even. Waiting for a bus, the ticking of a clock, the sandwich from a lunchbox, feeding a parakeet or smoking a cigarette. People do not talk or smile, the characters are so serious they look like actors. Without comment or interviews, Rocha Salgado has managed to make an intimate and cinematographically remarkable portrait of these people. Something she previously proved capable of with her graduation film Zo is dat. Part of Every Picture Tells a Story.
