5x mijn kamer

Short documentary, 2001, 54 min.

In the early eighties, the then fourteen-year-old filmmaker Tamara Miranda was living in a room in De Verhulst, a home for working and studying girls in Amsterdam. By means of five portraits of women who have lived in the same room of this haven at different times, this documentary shows what it is like to grow up in a girls' home. Are girls living in a home problem children? What is it really like to live in a shelter, and can an institution ever become a true home? Sonja lived in the room five years before Miranda, Rachel five years after, and Sharon left only recently. Kimberley is the only one who can really say that it is her room: she is living there now. She is the only one who is experiencing what it is like to live in a home.
