De magie van wetenschap - Niet voor bangeriken

Short documentary, 2010, 40 min.

Accessible overview of the history of brain research. Episode from a seven-part scientific series, on the occasion of the bicentennial of the Royal Dutch Academy of Sciences.
The short documentary follows the multiple award-winning Peter Hagoort, director of the Max Planck Institute for Psycholinguistics and founder/director of the FC Donders Centre for Cognitive Neuroimaging. Both renowned institutes make great headway in the understanding of the brain and how it facilitates memories, language, observation, attention, emotion and consciousness. His personal subject of research is the linguistic competence of humans: how does our brain enable us to communicate through a complex system of symbols? We watch him while visiting colleagues abroad, performing brain scans, but also while sharing his research results about language competence with the broad public during lectures and live performances at Lowlands and in Paradiso.
