Dirty Window

Short documentary, 2012, 59 min.

In the night of 18 to 19 February 2009, the nineteen-year-old prostitute Betty Szabo was killed in her crib in Amsterdam. The film follows Betty?s track back to her birthplace, Nyíregyháza in Hungary. Through witness accounts from people who knew her intimately, the contours of Betty?s existence emerge.
The subject of Dirty Window is definitely not the so far unsolved murder. Director Walter Stokman wanted to know who Betty was, where she came from, what her dreams were. In the documentary, we meet Betty?s father, who lives separated from her mother in bleak circumstances, her music teacher and a friend who worked in the red-light district with her, but returned home to Nyíregyháza for her children.
