Peace Versus Justice

Documentary, 2012, 65 min.

For more than twenty years, the Ugandan government has contended with Joseph Kony?s Lord?s Resistance Army (LRA). By now, his army of child soldiers also haunts Sudan and Congo. The International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague wants to try Kony as soon as possible, but the native population primarily hopes for their children?s safe homecoming. Quirijns films ICC staff members, who explain their plan of action and investigate the rebel leader?s crimes. She also followed Ugandan negotiators for years, who put all their energy in peace negotiations. After all, the people themselves are mainly craving for peace and reunited families. This documentary about complex moral issues provides the insight that, even if everybody basically wishes the same, divergent opinions can thwart this process.
