De waterwolf van Itteren

Documentary, 1996, 60 min.

This film captures the mood of everyday life in the rural Limburg village of Itteren. This small village under the smoke of Maastricht is well known because high water in the River Maas regularly causes flooding. In earlier days, people barely suffered from the high water because there were no parquet floors and expensive furniture. In recent years the terror of the water wolf has increased and a wall has been built to prevent the water getting in the living rooms. De waterwolf van Itteren sketches a picture of a changing community where the last remains of authenticity are dying out.
