Solo - De wet van de Favela

Short documentary, 1994, 54 min.

Documentary in which director Jos de Putter goes in search of promising soccer players in the slums of Rio de Janeiro. Soccer plays a significant role in the hopeless lives of many young inhabitants of the slums. A career as professional footballer may be the only way out of the ubiquitous atmosphere of violence and criminality. The documentary concentrates on two boys aged 11. They are inseparable and both play for a local team. A long-cherished dream seems to come true when a scout of a major Brazilian club offers them the chance of getting a contract. After a trial, one of the boys faces a dilemma.
