Dorpsgezichten

Short documentary, 1996, 37 min.

Portrait of the inhabitants of the village of Oudesluis in the Dutch province of North Holland. Fifty years ago, filmmaker Daan Pool visited the small rural hamlet of Oudesluis. In the tradition of portrait photography, he went from door to door and filmed all the inhabitants. The material he acquired sketches a unique picture of everyday life in Holland just after World War II. With Dorpsgezichten, director Gerard d'Olivat adds a new chapter to the portrait history of Oudesluis. His recent footage alongside the historic black-and-white material provides an impression of the villagers and their village culture and shows how the lines of the past can be continued into the future.
