Nagasaki Stories

Short documentary, 1996, 55 min.

A documentary in which several inhabitants of Nagasaki tell their personal stories. Fifty years after the bomb fell, the film aims to sketch the history of Nagasaki and the scale of the catastrophe through reminiscences, anecdotes, photos and old family films. The disaster is virtually indescribable and literally unimaginable. The different stories provide a picture of youth in the 1930s and 1940s without pretending to tell a complete story. The denial of the possibility of providing a complete picture of history is the starting point for the film. Incompleteness and fragmentation are of formal as well as substantial significance.
