26.000 Gezichten

Short documentary, 2006, 2 min.

26.000 Gezichten was a project aimed at giving a face, on television, to the asylum seekers who had exhausted all legal procedures and were forced to return to their countries of origin in the next three years. An initiative by a group of more than seventy (documentary and drama) film directors who intended to put short film portraits on TV. These were films from one to five minutes that were broadcasted for three years, the term in which, according to the Minister of Immigration and Integration, all expulsions had to take effect. With this project, the initiators wanted to draw attention to the way the Dutch government was dealing with asylum seekers and in particular the group of around 26,000 who after five years in Holland still did not have a status.
