Sutrapeze

Short documentary, 2010, 9 min.

Silence reigns in Sue Brent's living room. Aside from her breathing, the creaking of a rope and skin gliding across fabric. In the centre of the room, midway between floor and ceiling, she works through her daily, graceful trapeze ritual. The camera repeatedly picks out a fragment of her poised movements; part of a muscular, streamlined leg, a tight rope, part of her face. Or we see things from Sue's point of view, hanging from the rope and looking out of the window or at the ceiling. Flashes of a piano, the couch by the window and a wooden floor. On the walls, images of years gone by, when Sue was not swinging from her trapeze at home, but over the streets of London. Pim Zwier, who made several other short, artistic documentary films, lets the camera tell the story, extremely close to the airborne dancer, sometimes even clinging to her.
