Werkteater

Documentary, 1997, 70 min.

In the fifteen years of its existence from 1970-1985, Werkteater managed to build up such a reputation that it became a legend soon after its demise. Its work method as a theatre group was completely new in Holland. Theatre without writer, director or even the inevitable 'dramaturg', in which the actors made their own plays, was completely unknown at that time. The members dispersed and found their way into all fields of Dutch theatre - from established drama to theatre for the deaf - but you also come across them on television and film. Twelve years after the group fell apart, Niek Koppen made a documentary consisting of interviews with high-speed cutting in which the former members, minus Gerard Thoolen for whom the film came too late, look back on the special approach of Werkteater.
