The Hunt

Documentary, 1997, 90 min.

England has about 200 hunts with 250,000 members and supporters that maintain an age-old aristocratic tradition. For many people in Britain, the fox hunt symbolises traditional country life, but it also has many opponents. In The Hunt Niek Koppen looks for the significance of the fox hunt in the country. The camera registers idyllic pictures of huntmen and their dogs as well as shocking images of dead horses and foxes, but the film does not take sides for or against hunting. In Shopshire Koppen follows a hunt master and his two drivers, but also shows protests by anti-hunt activists.
