Voor ik doodga

Short documentary, 2003, 50 min.

Voor ik doodga (Before I Die) is a documentary that portrays people who in one way or another have been confronted with their mortality. Like the young woman who finds out on holiday that she is suffering from intestinal cancer. Or the black young man who works as a doorman at a discotheque and is almost fatally battered with a broken beer glass. A young mother who knows she will soon die keeps a diary for her child. Another woman explains what consequences it has for her and her children that their father has throat cancer. She talks about her feelings in a moving car, while the unfortunate bouncer recounts his experiences in his empty house. The film underscores that the people portrayed have become aware of their own finiteness, look at life differently and see their past in a different light now.
