Verhalen van een rivier

Documentary, 1994, 85 min.

Documentary about several inhabitants of Dessau, a town in the former GDR, situated alongside a slow-Éflowing river. This river is a metaphor for the inevitable course of history on which people drift. The film shows what
happened to four inhabitants of Dessau after reunification. How do they come to terms with their past? How do they grab new opportunities? The influence of the recent history of Germany on the lives of individuals is made tangible. The central figure in the documentary is 83-year-old Mr Weise. German history and that of Dessau are interwoven with his own personal history. His stories about Dessau and his bond with the river return throughout the film.
