Contemporary compositions are hard to fathom and are sometimes experienced as ?barbed-wire music?. All the same, the Utrecht-based ensemble Insomnio wants to perform both new compositions and 20th century highlights. We follow the orchestra in their quest for the best execution of Pierre Boulez? Le Marteau sans Maître. Should Insomnio?s ardent musicians perform this complex music the way Boulez tells them to when they visit the master in Paris, or can the orchestra just play their own interpretation of it?
