On his 30th birthday, Tom Fassaert receives a mysterious invitation from his 95-year-old grandmother Marianne, a woman he only knows from predominantly negative family stories. In the 1950s, she was a diva and a model who put her two sons in a children’s home before leaving for South Africa. Grandson Tom takes along his camera, but he has trouble unravelling his grandmother’s history, which is shrouded in myth and conflict, and telling the difference between posing and the urge to survive. The filmmaker gets deeply involved himself.
