Lennaert Nijgh. Tip van de sluier

Short documentary, 2008, 52 min.

'I think nobody really knew him', Astrid Nijgh says about her ex-husband Lennaert. 'And he probably didn't know himself.' Lennaert Nijgh (1945-2002) sucked up the world and transformed it into lyrics that have become classic songs. But the man behind those words remains a mystery. In this portrait, a number of people try to clear up things. First of all, Boudewijn de Groot, with whom Nijgh shared his biggest successes, from Testament to Land van Maas en Waal. Rob de Nijs explains why he has performed Malle Babbe thousands of times, and Liesbeth List calls Pastorale, her duet with Ramses Shaffy, the new Dutch hymn. Huub van der Lubbe sings the praises of Welterusten mijnheer de President en Spinvis praises the complete oeuvre.
Nijgh's former wives Astrid, Anja and Josee shed light on the character of the man behind all these splendid songs, who never completely dropped his guard.
