EDSA - End to End

Short documentary, 1992, 58 min.

The Epifinio de los Santos Avenue (EDSA) is a gigantic ten-lane highway which winds its way through the huge city of Manila: twenty-three kilometres long, six-lanes wide and choked up 24 hours a day. This road is the lifeline of the city where the contradictions of Philippine society are clearly visible. This is where the revolution broke out in 1986, leading to the installation of Cory Aquino as president. Eugène van den Bosch filmed life along the EDSA during the 1992 presidential elections: the speeches, the bragging politicians and president Aquino at a military parade, but also the families which try to sell their goods along the road. We also hear from the political activist Satur Ocampo, who has spent twelve years in jail.
