All Visitors Must Be Announced

Documentary, 1996, 78 min.

They probably only exist in New York City and can be compared with no one: doormen. Even concierges in Paris never find out as much about their tenants as the men and women who are often the first and last people greeted every day by thousands who inhabit apartment blocks in New York. They repel unwanted visitors, take parcels from the mailman and hold the door open with a smile for the always hurrying New Yorkers. That smile hides the certainty that they know everything about you and those who wants to be assured of their privacy will have to purchase their silence with the occasional tip. All Visitors Must Be Announced portrays three of these doormen.
