Short documentary, 1983, 41 min.

Science, research on nature can be pleasant. Filmmaker Tijs Tinbergen follows his brother, ornithologist Joost Tinbergen, during his research of starlings. From a hide, the bird watcher examines how one of the birds raises its chicks. He meticulously records how long it takes the bird to gather a new portion of food for its hungry chicks and what the prey consists of. Are they leatherjackets, the larvae of the crane flies living nearby, or are they the more nutritious caterpillars that can be found a little further off and that take the bird a little longer to get?
