Mul

Short documentary, 2001, 45 min.

Every year, the brent geese fly from Siberia to Wieringen in the Netherlands. They have done so for centuries, as a gravestone from 1643 in a church proves. Also, the many entries with the family name Rotgans (Brent) in the phonebook make clear that the brent is inextricably bound up with Wieringen, as this animal is also an inseparable part of the life of the artist Theo Mulder. For decades, 'Mul' has been awaiting the birds in the polder, he counts them, films them and represents them in bronze, mosaic or photographs. Director Tijs Tinbergen in turn filmed the artist and his unremitting love for the brent goose. With a keen eye for detail and for the life of the brent, Tinbergen shows that both the artist and the goose have left their marks on Wieringen.
