Damenwahl - Ein Film über Liebe

Short documentary, 2004, 55 min.

In Damenwahl, Annette Otto looks for the underlying motives for her parents' forty-year relationship. She interviews her mother in the kitchen, and the latter also asks questions to the filmmaker. This makes the spectator witness to conversations that usually take place behind the curtains. Otto follows her father with her camera when he goes out to dance in a nearby health resort. Her mother practices weekly at the shooting club. 'My father has no reason to drive home', the director says in voice-over when he is staring in front of him, standing still beside the road. And yet her parents have stayed together. You had no choice in the old days, her mother says, they simply had to marry each other. In a subdued style, Annette Otto reveals how the bond between these two people lies in the past. It does not matter what they think of each other now. The present is irrelevant.
