The Family

Feature film, 1973, 110 min.

The Family was initially performed as a series of four plays by the Nederlands Toneel, directed by Lodewijk de Boer. Its overwhelming success made De Boer decide to adapt the grim stage play for the screen, under the production of Rob du Mée. It is the story of a family tragedy zooming in on the close relationship between two maladjusted brothers and their mute sister in an Amsterdam squat. Their contact with the outside world causes their relationship to waver, especially when a highly unexpected visitor presents himself.
