De vijfde bruid

Documentary, 2007, 68 min.

'Some people go to Lourdes, I went to Anton Heyboer, filmmaker Rogier Timmermans' aunt Petra summarises. 'I ended up with him and was cured. Without Ton, I wouldn't have been around anymore'. In the 1980s, Petra was the fifth and last woman to join the fine artist Anton Heyboer's harem, where she encountered the authenticity she had vainly sought in society: 'Everyone tends to play roles there'.
Timmermans intended to make a portrait of his aunt, who runs a gallery across from Heyboer's closed commune in Den Ilp. The challenging film process forces the filmmaker to take a closer look at his family, which leads to a confrontation with his father. He also pays a visit to his grandmother - Petra's mother and collector of Heyboer's work - in Limburg. She appears to be the key to make the pieces of the puzzle fit.
New and extended version of the graduation documentary from 2001.
