Short documentary, 2010, 10 min.

The 79-year-old pigeon fancier Kees leads us round in his spacious back garden that holds a nice dovecot. Here, he passionately kept and looked after his beloved, winged animals. His wife, who passed away years ago, used to be his fanatical assistant. This was the old pigeon fancier's great fortune. Affectionately, he says: 'It's really awesome when your wife stands by you, you know, especially with this hobby.' Now, he is all on his own. Because Kees has trouble letting go of the past, he forces himself to make a radical decision.
In this melancholy, short documentary by new talent Saskia Kluit, well-thought-out images of Kees' sober surroundings are delicately interwoven with the stories he tells in the voice-over and subtly drawn animations by Hanneke van der Linden. In the process, the shared past of Kees and his wife is shortly revived: from their marriage and the collective care of the pigeons to the disease that ended it all.
