Cold Case Torrentius

Short documentary, 2016, 69 min.

The mysterious 17th century painter and freethinker Johannes Torrentius was rich, famous and notorious. A libertine who ridiculed religion, was tortured and convicted for heresy, and permitted to leave the country by the Royal Family as a gesture to the English king. Only one of his works has survived; a mysterious masterpiece that for years served as a lid of a raisin barrel. The filmmaker re-examines the case, but the enigma only seems to grow. And how tolerant was Holland really in those days?
