Schreeuwen of zwijgen

Short documentary, 1997, 50 min.

The Sinti's - gypsies, as house-dwellers call them - are a people with a tragic past. They have for centuries faced suspicion from the population, culminating in their persecution under the Third Reich. It turned solidarity, pride and a strong family bond into pillars of their culture. Filmmakers Hopmans and Van den Berg were able to make a profound portrait of Lalla and her family. The inhabitants of a caravan site fights for a better future for her people and teachers her children to be proud of their identity. Zoni, whose whole family died in Auschwitz, made a career in civilian society and in the documentary goes back with Hannes to places from both their pasts.
