Addo, koning der dieren

Documentary, 2002, 75 min.

The images of Serengeti National Park in Tanzania never lose their beauty. The way Addo, koning der dieren(Addo, King of the Animals) is edited, the threat - no animal's life is safe in the park - becomes a story in itself. Even at night, a cheetah has to flee into a tree with her prey, to save it from the lions' claws. The newborn lion cub Addo sees it all. He plays with his brothers, watches his mother hunt and follows how two competing lions try to chase away his father. Despite the countless dangers, Addo grows into an adult, strong lion. Together with another lion, he becomes the leader of a new group. Addo becomes the new lion king of the Serengeti. People who have already seen the full-length documentary Serengeti Symphony know how music and images together tell the story of the wilderness. Cinematographer Hugo van Lawick died before the film was completed.
