The Leopard Son

Documentary, 1996, 81 min.

Dramatised nature film about a little leopard cub on the Serengeti Plains in Tanzania. We follow the animal for a year and witness how it grows up, becomes self-sufficient and eventually, as an adult, finds a female mate. Unlike most nature films, Van Lawick portrays an individual animal in The Leopard Son, with its own characteristics and peculiarities. According to the maker, 'luck' is the main theme of his film: 'In life, many things depend on luck. You can be killed or wounded or you can have just enough luck to survive.'
