EPTAS - Het verhaal van een vliegend tapijt in Zwolle

Short documentary, 2005, 12 min.

Poetic docudrama begins with an abstract, reddish image, as if we look through a microscope. When the camera zooms out, it turns out to be a detail of a Persian rug. The rug is in the backyard of a Dutch terrace house. On the carpet, people of various ages are sitting and some things with different functions lie about. A coffee cup is clearly seen from above. A woman pores over the residue in the cup and says: 'I see an old man. He is thinking, he is very sad, he is ill. That's why he is worried.' A little later, grandpa calls over the cell phone. It is his final wish to see all the people on the rug. A synthesizer starts a melancholy tune, which soon changes into cheerful ditties. The company starts dancing. People in the neighbourhood close their windows, or open them. Then the party calms down and starts leafing through a photo album. With the help of a crane shot, the carpet with its occupants becomes smaller and smaller. Then the camera turns away, over the roofs of the terrace houses, aimed at the distance.
