With its powerful, black-and-white, strict frames and world of private investigators and nightclubs, De Nobelprijswinnaar creates the atmosphere of a classical crime movie, albeit provided with wry one-liners. In the screenplay by debuting feature director Timo Veltkamp - who won the 1999 Golden Calf for Best Screenplay with Ger Poppelaars for Missing Link - the characters and events are gradually more and more interconnected. 'My deepest conviction as a writer,' says the pretentious bestseller author in one of many self-referring remarks in the film, 'is that things should intertwine.'
