We zijn er is an indictment of a black page in colonial history, featuring rapper Typhoon as a slave who is given a good whipping by his white owner. The closing shot is very powerful: the image of the rebellious slave who seizes the whip fades into the rapper on stage, raising his microphone in his clenched fist. The video was shot on location in Cape Verde, at the time a pivot in the international slave trade.
