The Rosegarden

Feature film, 1989, 112 min.

English-spoken, shot in Germany, courtroom drama based on real events in which a female German lawyer defends an old man accused of an attack on a former camp commander from World War II. Aaron Reichenbacher, a Holocaust victim, starts looking for his sister in Germany many years after World War II. At Frankfurt Airport, he recognises a former Nazi executioner. The latter turns out to have been responsible for the cold-blooded murder of twenty children during medical experiments, including the sisters of the old man, in the Neuengamme concentration camp, just before the liberation. Back then, Reichenbacher was the only one who managed to survive. When Reichenbacher attacks the former Nazi, the latter brings his assailant to court. Liv Ullmann won a Golden Globe for her role as lawyer.
