Nooddorp

Short documentary, 2008, 100 min.

Nooddorp lies wedged between Rotterdam and the airport. The village developed when after the bombings in WW II people from the port were transferred to emergency houses here. Many of them never left. The hamlet now numbers eight hundred inhabitants living in seven streets. In a series of four films, we meet a number of striking villagers.
Toon 'buffoon' and Willem have been friends for years. Their life revolves around the allotment garden and conviviality - accompanied by a drink, of course. These elderly gentlemen do not drink milk or coffee, only beer. But take Jan Janssen. He also likes his party, but he is dying. Toon and his mates are confronted more and more with death around them.
Lau and Tiny cannot live with or without each other. And cursing life is their daily routine. Even when they deck out the Christmas tree together. Cokkie, another one of Toon's chums, does better with the ladies: no fewer than two women curry his favours.
