Plastic Tulips

Short documentary, 1995, 11 min.

Ironic view by filmmaker Janine Prins of the 'manufacturability' of the Dutch landscape and its influence on culture. Plastic Tulips is a short kaleidoscopic portrait of stereotypical Holland. The film shows attractive yet clichéd pictures of for instance a windy beach, windmills, a cyclist in a snow-covered polder landscape, Madurodam, trams in the rain, the flower auction at Aalsmeer, a dredger and skaters on Amsterdam's Leidseplein. The filmmaker uses these pictures to express her mixed feelings about the country where she grew up.
