Wetenshoppen - Aflevering 7: Schedels en neuzen meten

Short documentary, 1999, 25 min.

By measuring someone, can you say something about their inner self? Measuring people has been going on for a long time in science. The Italian Lombroso tried to recognise criminals by measuring their skulls. The Nazis bolstered their race theories by measuring the noses of Jews. In the 1970's, professor Buikhuizen wanted to measure people in a more modern way to explain criminal behaviour. His theories met only resistance and got compared with Mengele. He turned his back on science, a disillusioned man. His assistants from that time say what happened afterwards. But measuring is back in science with a vengeance. Not with a tape measure, but in the genes. A guided tour of the eventful history of measure for measure.
