Fotoportret

Short documentary, 1970, 11 min.

Short documentary about the genre of portrait photography from 1840 to the 1970s. The first photographs that Joseph Niépce made in 1826 were still vague images, but around 1840 people were able to make sharp portrait photos, even though the heads of the persons portrayed had to be clasped in head supports to prevent blur as a result of their movements. With the advent of the instantaneous exposure, portrait photography came within everybody's reach and differences in vision and style began to become apparent. Gradually, portraits started showing not only a face, but also a world, a mentality. As witnesses of a reality, they are part of the portrait of our society.
