Revision - Apocalypse II

Feature film, 2010, 80 min.

Demonic possession? Check. Gratuitous violence? Check. Unfunctional nudity? Double check. But despite all eye-catching horror ingredients, Revision - Apocalypse II simply defies pigeonholing. Screenwriter, producer and director Edwin Brienen feels more at ease in the avant-garde scene, alternating bloodshed with alienating camera angles and philosophical meditations. In a nefarious society where globalisation and terrorism fuel each other, ex-model Traci (regular Brienen muse Dorrenpaal, also co-producer) progressively loses her grip on reality. Her husband convinces her that her spiritual void can best be filled by committing a murder. Traci's mental descent into hell is replete with symbolism, with a copulating Christ as a blasphemous climax. Unsuspecting spectators may be convinced that Judgement Day has actually arrived in the music video intermezzos in which Jacob Dove Basker, as Traci's inner demon 'Vince Destructo', playbacks Vincent Koreman's trash-punk metal.
