Postcards From the Continent

Short Film, 2006, 3 min.

Three episodes of a series of ten. Postcards from the Continent consists of a series ten of of visual rhymes, based on filmed observations from the real world, or to which 'phantasms' these observations can lead. In La Mancha - think of Don Quichote - the strong wind makes windmills rotate at high speed. The wind is so strong that people are almost blown off their feet.
Seemingly casual observations also form the leitmotif in Miss Helga Almond. When listening carefully to the announcements at the airport, one starts recognising texts like 'Mr. Almond Ferry to gate 9 please': it means that luggage has been left somewhere unattended. The announcements are illustrated by loose images of Schiphol. The voice-over is Philipp Moser's.
One long wire fom Lisboa to Shanghai follows a metal thread that runs from Portugal to China. The soundtrack with classical music accompanies the camera that follows the thread, before switching to the rails at a trainstation, where numerous switches send the trains in the required direction.
