Mahamoelia
In the mid-1920s, Polygoon cameraman Isidor Arras Ochse captured the life in the Netherlands East Indies in three long films: the Maha cycle. The film Mahamoelia (exalted highness) begins with a journey by ship across the Berau River along a coaling station, a coalmine, an oil port and a refinery: modern industry in the jungle. In the town of Bandjermasin, there is heavy traffic of gondolas and small boats. From there, the journey continues upstream on a paddle wheeler across the Barito River to the interior of Borneo.
